In the multifaceted figure of Francisco González Gamarra, we find one of the most complete examples of the artistic genius put to the task of searching and defining a national identity. He was a painter, musician and sculptor, and among his collection we find pen drawings, oils, watercolors, caricatures, Cusco themes and etchings. His work is oriented towards the formulation of an art that is eminently national, Peruvian. He finds the sours of his models in the past and tradition from that would define his own uniqueness. What is more, González would become the first exhibitor of culture, history and Peruvian customs beyond the borders of Peru. His collections were shown in the United States, France and in his own country at the start of the twentieth century.
